Amazon is looking to hire a digital currency and blockchain expert amid rising interest in cryptocurrency..

Amazon is looking to add  a digital currency and blockchain expert to join its payments team, indicating that the company is taking cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin more seriously.

According to a recent job posting, Amazon is seeking to hire an "experienced product leader to develop Amazon's Digital Currency and Blockchain strategy and product roadmap," as per the team in charge of payment acceptance and experience.

According to the job posting, which Insider previously reported on, “you'll use your domain expertise in Blockchain, Distributed Ledger, Central Bank Digital Currencies, and Cryptocurrency to make a case for the capabilities that should be developed, as well as drive overall vision and product strategy, and gain leadership buy-in and investment for new capabilities.”

The job posting was confirmed by Amazon.

“In a statement, an Amazon representative said, "We're fascinated by the innovation happening in the cryptocurrency industry, and we're exploring what this might look like on Amazon." We believe that new technologies will enable modern, rapid, and low-cost payments in the future, and we intend to deliver that future to Amazon customers as soon as possible.”

Amazon Web Services, the company's cloud computing unit, provides a managed blockchain solution. However, Amazon does not accept cryptocurrency as a form of payment for its goods. In 2017, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy (then-CEO of AWS) stated that the firm was not particularly focused on blockchain technology, however he confessed that the company was "watching it carefully."

In recent years, digital currencies such as bitcoin have gained in popularity, resulting in increased institutional use. Facebook, which has supported a digital currency initiative called Diem, is one of the technology corporations that has warmed up to cryptocurrencies. Apple announced in May that it was hiring a chief negotiator to form agreements with “alternative payments” partners, citing cryptocurrencies as one possible area of expertise.
